BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A Boise cat shelter will hold a lottery to determine the new owner of a one-eyed feline called Valentine after a 12-year-old boy shot her in the head with an arrow.
The stray was rescued in January and taken to a Garden City veterinarian who removed the arrow, which was lodged in the cat's eye and sticking out the back of its head for a week.
The boy told police he was trying to scare the cat away from some quail and did not intend to hit it.
Valentine is now partially blind and deaf on her left side.
Sheri Schneider, director of the Simply Cats shelter, says the cat should be ready for adoption on March 24. The shelter requires an application and interview as part of the adoption process.
