PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Dickinson State baseball team dropped a pair of games at the Phoenix Invitational on Saturday.

Malone (Ohio) topped the Blue Hawks 9-1 and 5-4 to drop their record to 4-4 on the season. Efrain Ruiz was 2-for-3.

“We just have not hit the ball well yet,” Dickinson State coach Duane Monlux said. “Our pitching has been solid and it’s kept us in games. We just haven’t hit the ball as well as we hoped to.”

Malone held a 4-1 lead in the first game until they piled on five more runs in the fifth to run away with it. In game 2, the Blue Hawks mustered 11 hits but struggled to move runners across.

“We did not swing the bat well with runners in scoring position,” Monlux said. “We lacked timely hits. Hopefully, we can bounce back with a better approach and better ABs.”
