Letter: Find out if schools observe 'Day of Silence'
Congratulations are in order for Gary and Kathy Ladbury and also David Hegstad for the great responses to the letter, “Time to update views about gays, lesbians” By Colleen McKirdy, April 7. Your comments are right on. I couldn’t say it any better. Thank you for having the courage to speak out.
On a related note: A homosexual group known as the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network is once again sponsoring a "Day Of Silence" on April 17 in thousands of schools across the nation. Please note: Some schools may be doing it on a different day. DOS is a nationwide push to promote the homosexual lifestyle in our public schools. They will do so by remaining silent thus disrupting classes. GLSEN teaches students to believe that homosexuality is a proper lifestyle that has few or no risks, that people are born this way and cannot change, and those that oppose these teachings are ignorant and hateful bigots. DOS leads students to believe that every person who identifies as a homosexual, bisexual, or crossdresser is a victim of ongoing continual hate and harassment.
Sadly, our public education system, made up of the National Education Association, kindergarten through college, funded by our tax dollars, is the big promoter. This gross misuse of our tax dollars is an outrage and those involved should be held accountable.
We can, and must contact our school principals and superintendent to see if they are participating in DOS. It’s the responsibility of school administrators to inform parents and the community of these and other types of activities.
Spread the word to other parents and have them join in keeping their children home from school on the 17th or whatever day they choose to observe. Inform your school that you will be keeping your child home from school that day if they are observing DOS.
Inform your pastor or priest as well. You owe it to your children and grandchildren. Explain to your child that homosexuality is a shameful identity, it is sinful, unnatural and destructive behavior. The Bible says homosexuality is an abomination. Also remember that God hates the sin, but loves the sinner. We are to do likewise.
