Hausauer turns out of Calgary Stampede with back injury

Dickinson saddle bronc rider Dusty Hausauer won’t be competing in the Calgary (Alberta) Stampede this week after suffering a lower back injury on July 3 at the Livingston (Mont.) Round-up.

Hausauer said Tuesday that he was back in Dickinson receiving treatments.

“They (doctors) are trying to get it figured out now,” Hausauer said. “I had X-rays and the doctors at home are looking at it.”

Hausauer’s injury couldn’t have come at a worse time in his summer season.

He was coming off an 88-point ride that won him $7,581 at the Buffalo Bill Cody (Wyo.) Stampede on July 2 and helped move him hold strong at fifth place in the world standings.

But, Hausauer knew something was wrong after getting bucked in Livingston.

“I was just trying to make the best ride I could and the horse ended up bucking me off and I ended up slamming on my back pretty hard,” Hausauer said.

He tried riding in the short round of the Greeley (Colo.) Stampede on the Fourth of July but was bucked off.

Hausauer was scheduled to begin a four-day draw at the Calgary Stampede on Tuesday and was excited about the broncs he was drawn to saddle up on. The rodeo is one of the biggest money events of the year and cowboys can compete there by invitation only.

“It’s a shame I had all those good horses and just couldn’t make ’em work,” Hausauer said.

Dickinson saddle bronc rider Shaun Stroh won $5,000 during his four days in Calgary. He had an 82.5-point ride to place second in the second performance on July 4. However, despite going 4-for-4 on his rides, Stroh didn’t reach the Calgary short round.
