Vols sweep Miles City

Taylor Thiel drove in three runs and reliever Brett Braunagel wrapped up the game in the seventh as the Volunteers beat the Miles City (Mont.) Outlaws 8-5 in the opener.

In the second game, Tevin Papineau hit a two-run double to break a 12-12 tie in the bottom of the sixth and boost the Roughriders to a 15-12 victory.

Jamie Kuntz had a three-run homer in the fourth inning and started off Dickinson’s four-run sixth inning with a single.

Jordan Tescher added a solo homer in the fifth for Dickinson, which improved to 21-15.

The second game went back and forth. There were seven lead changes.

Braxton MacKenzie took the win in the opening game and Papineau, who entered in the sixth, picked up the victory in the nightcap.

In the doubleheader, Miles City’s Caleb Frare went 4-for-6 with two doubles and five RBI.

The Volunteers host the Mandan A’s at 5:30 p.m. today, picking up where they left off last Wednesday when the game was suspended in the second inning due to an incoming storm.
