BOWMAN — The Dickinson Volunteers ended their regular season on a strong note, sweeping a Section 8 doubleheader from the Bowman County Blue Sox on Friday.
Dickinson starting pitcher Braxton MacKenzie (4-1) earned his third victory in four days, twirling a three-hit shutout to beat the Blue Sox 3-0 in the opener.
“What an effort by him,” Dickinson coach Carter Fong said. “He was very composed and very under control on the mound, and he’s got a rubber arm.”
Bowman County starter Kyle Palczewski went the distance, suffering the loss despite a good outing.
The bats came alive in the nightcap as the Vols scored early and often, winning 20-4 in five innings.
“We jumped on them early,” Fong said. “We took advantage of their pitchers being unable to find the zone.”
The sweep means the Vols finished their eight-games-in-four-days stretch with a 5-3 record.
“We had a tough stretch in July, but we did win our last three of the regular season,” Fong said. “We ended on a good note, and I think we’re ready for tournament time.”
