Killdeer bull rider Kukla takes second in performance

FARMINGTON, N.M. — Killdeer senior bull rider Bucky Kukla hung on for eight seconds to score a 66 during Tuesday morning’s performance at the National High School Finals Rodeo.

The ride put Kukla second in his performance but puts him in line to make a run at the short go when he rides again Thursday in the second round.

Sheyenne senior Bobbi Grann, the defending national champion in the goat tying, started off her title defense well, finishing fourth in her Tuesday morning performance with a time of 8.717 seconds.

Mandan’s Wyatt Gifford held on during the morning‘s saddle bronc riding but managed only a 44-point ride. Belfield’s Trell Shypkoski was bucked during the evening performance.

Fargo’s Annie Lindberg, who competes for the Minnesota High School Rodeo Association, clocked a fifth-place time of 21.284 seconds in the pole bending in the night performance. Teha Weyer of Wibaux, Mont., was eighth at 21.481.

Bismarck’s Tyler Pabst finished sixth in the morning tie-down roping with a time of 13.16 seconds while Mandan’s Tate Schwagler was eighth in the night performance with a 14.464.

Wyatt Clark of Wellfleet, Neb., moved into first place in the bareback riding with a 75-point ride. Mandan’s Ty Breuer dropped from first into a three-way tie for second place.
