Mike Opay, Princeton, Minn., works on a tie crane Monday morning on the railroad tracks near Gladstone. Matt Salazar, Billings, Mont., is in the background. More than 40 BNSF Railway crewmembers descended on the Dickinson area a few weeks ago for the project. Employees planned to work around Gladstone Monday and Tuesday and then head to Mandan Wednesday. The workers have a seven-hour window each day where the trains do not run so they can replace ties — 24,000 for the entire project.
