Letter: Keep North Dakota clean

Thank you to Marathon Oil Co. who just recently picked up litter along Highway 22 north of Dickinson. Also, thank you to all the organizations who volunteer to pick up litter in this area. It is very much appreciated!

However, it saddens me to see how much litter has already accumulated since the cleanup.

Recently, my husband and I were in Branson, Mo. While there, I noticed very little litter. Why? They, along with several other states, have a $1,000 litter fine. In some cases, the fine can be much higher.

Please encourage your state legislatures to follow this fine example for our beautiful state of North Dakota.

I so appreciate the business establishments in Dickinson who have litter-free property and entrances. Hats off to Applebee’s in this endeavor.

Parents please set good examples for your children. Carry a bag in your vehicle for garbage. As youngsters, my siblings and I were not allowed to throw gum wrappers out the window of a vehicle. May we have a return of this teaching!
