I am writing to express my strong opposition to a government-run health care option. I believe health care reform should address what is broken with our current system, and that a government-run plan would only cause more problems — not fix the ones we already have.
A government-run health insurance plan will undermine employer-sponsored coverage and is the first step toward a government takeover of health care similar to Europe and Canada, with fewer covered procedures, long wait times for physician consultations and surgery, and more government bureaucracy.
In addition, the cost of government-run health care is expected to balloon out of control in the years following implementation of the government-run system. History tells us that government-run entitlement costs tend to quickly increase. The American people want health care costs to go down for consumers and employers, yet this plan does the opposite.
We need to tell our Congressional delegation to consider the impact that a government-run public plan would have on the private sector. It is important that we address health care reform with this in mind. I strongly urge our elected officials to oppose any legislation that favors a government-run, public health care plan.
