Letter: Legislature losing experienced watchdog

Thank you Rep. Frank Wald!

The news of his retirement from the North Dakota Legislature brings mixed feelings.

Wald has certainly earned and deserves more private time after a long and distinguished record of public service. At the same time, the North Dakota Legislature is losing a knowledgeable and experienced “watch dog” on identifying and eliminating unnecessary spending and giving high priority to protecting the taxpayers.

It was a privilege and honor to serve with Wald. His wise and good judgment on many major issues served his district and North Dakota very well. He earned the confidence and respect of his peers and was elected speaker in 1999. Thirty years in elected office is a notable accomplishment.

When the Legislature convenes, Rep. Frank Wald will be missed.

Earl S. Strinden, Grand Forks
