BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota officials are looking to choke off sales of some legal products that mimic the effects of marijuana and methamphetamine.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is asking the state Board of Pharmacy to add seven types of chemicals to the state’s list of controlled substances. If the chemicals are put on the list, they can’t be sold legally without a prescription.
Stenehjem says right now, the chemicals are being sold legally in “head shops.” The fake meth is a powder and is labeled as bath salt, and the synthetic marijuana is advertised as herbs or incense.
Stenehjem says users know the substances are actually mood-altering drugs.
