The Dickinson Press received the North Dakota Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest General Excellence and Sweepstakes awards in the small daily classification Saturday night at the NDNA Convention in Fargo.

General Excellence is considered the best overall newspaper by the judges.

“I am extremely pleased with the recognition our staff received from the NDNA Better Newspaper Contest,” Publisher Harvey Brock said. “To be recognized by your peers is very gratifying. The General Excellence Award and Sweepstakes awards are the result of a lot of hard work by very dedicated employees. Every one of our employees had a part in winning the awards, from the reporters to the pressmen who print the paper.”

The Sweepstakes Award is given to the newspapers that accumulate the most individual awards in their classification. The Dickinson Press received 44 individual and staff awards in advertising, editorial, photo, design, special sections and first place for the newspaper’s website. Terry Scheer, Jennifer Binstock, Mandy Burman, Debra Hughs, Jerry Obrigewitsch, Bonita Ellis and the advertising staff as a whole won multiple advertising awards. Newsroom staffers Ashley Martin, Dustin Monke, Lisa Call, Bess Pallares, Jennifer McBride and Jenaya Kiti received individual awards and the department collaborated on additional newsroom awards.
