Area students perform at Band Night Parade

Ten schools in southwest North Dakota have banded together to form a band.

BISMARCK (AP) — Ten schools in southwest North Dakota have banded together to form a band.

The Southwest Marching Band began as a collaboration between Belfield and South Heart six years ago. It has grown to include about 350 students from Belfield, Richardton, Killdeer, Halliday, South Heart, New England, Scranton, Bowman, Hettinger and Dickinson Trinity.

Officials say it provides an opportunity that the students in the small schools otherwise would not get.

The band performed Friday during the annual Band Night Parade in Bismarck. The event is in its 40th year. It draws bands from across North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Canada.
