TRNP elk-meat packers to be paid

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is seeking paid packers to haul elk out of the park as part of an elk reduction effort in the South Unit starting in October, according to a TRNP press release.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is seeking paid packers to haul elk out of the park as part of an elk reduction effort in the South Unit starting in October, according to a TRNP press release.

“Packers will need to be experienced in using pack animals in rough Badlands terrain and provide their own pack stock, trailer and tow vehicles,” according to the release.

Packers could begin work as early as Oct. 10, and those interested in the work must be registered in the Central Contractor Registration and Online Representations and Certifications Application. Required information should be entered in the databases by Aug. 6.

“Having packers assist with the removal of elk meat from the field will allow volunteer teams more time to concentrate on reducing the number of elk in the park,” said TRNP Superintendent Valerie Naylor in the release. “It will make our operation as efficient as possible.”
