Roughriders split in regular-season finale

The Dickinson Roughriders American Legion baseball team closed out its regular season with a split Monday.

WILLISTON — The Dickinson Roughriders American Legion baseball team closed out its regular season with a split Monday.

Dickinson lost to the Minot Vistas 16-15 in 10 innings in the early game and beat back the Williston Keybirds 7-6 in the late game.

The Roughriders rallied from a 12-10 deficit in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extra innings. But Minot scored four runs in the top of the 10th, with Dickinson coming up short after scoring three runs.

In the nightcap, Taylor Dutchak’s RBI single in the top of the ninth broke a 6-all tie against the Keybirds.

The Roughriders (14-24 overall, 7-11 statewide) led 6-3 in the seventh before giving up three runs to the Keybirds. Williston’s Derrick Linghor had a two-run single as part of the rally.

Dickinson struck early, going up 5-0 after the first.

The Roughriders face Williston at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Mandan in the first of two games during the first round of the West Division tournament.

Dickinson will play Bismarck at 3:30 p.m. if it beats the Keybirds. It plays the loser of the Mandan-Minot game at 6:30 p.m. with a loss.
