Last of ND Guard soldiers return from Kosovo

BISMARCK (AP) — The last group of North Dakota National Guard soldiers who served as part of a NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo were returning home today.

The soldiers were flying on commercial flights into Fargo, Bismarck, Minot and Grand Forks.

About 40 soldiers had remained in Kosovo for a ceremony Saturday to formally hand over command to the Puerto Rico Army National Guard after the yearlong mission.

About 650 North Dakota soldiers served. About 150 returned in May, with the bulk of the rest coming home last week. A few soldiers volunteered to remain in Kosovo for a second year.
