LYONS, Kan. — The Dickinson Mustangs 11-year-old baseball team booked a place in the Cal Ripken Midwest Plains Region Tournament semifinals with a win over Kansas on Saturday.
The Mustangs won 8-4.
Dickinson shot out to a four-run lead in the first inning.
Jacob Koskovich led Dickinson at the plate, going 3-for-3. He hit a two-run homer in the third inning, and added a single and double. Koskovich ended the game with three RBI. Helping the Mustangs were Sean Steffan’s 3-for-3 day at the plate, with an RBI, and Treven Hopfauf’s 2-for-3 effort, with three RBI.
Cameron Jorda pitched five innings and had five strikeouts in the win. Hopfauf helped keep Kansas at bay in the fifth by turning a double play to end the inning. Kansas loaded the bases with one out.
Dickinson plays Missouri at 4:30 p.m. today. A win gives the team a No. 1 seed in its pool heading into the semifinals Monday.
