BISMARCK (AP) — Republican Rick Berg has defeated Democratic U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy for North Dakota’s only seat in the U.S. House.

With 77 percent of the vote in late Tuesday, Berg had 55 percent of the vote to 45 percent for Pomeroy in unofficial returns.

Berg becomes the first Republican in 30 years to win North Dakota’s U.S. House seat. Pomeroy has served for 18 years. Democrat Byron Dorgan was North Dakota’s House member for a dozen years before that.
