Blue Hawks women finish 4th at DAC cross country meet

JAMESTOWN — The Dickinson State women’s cross country team finished fourth at the Dakota Athletic Conference Championships on Friday at Hillcrest Golf Course.

DSU finished with 104 points.

Gladys Rotich led the Blue Hawks with a 12th-place finish with a time of 19 minutes, 39 seconds. Teammates Tina Marie Soto (19:55) and Vanessa Esquivel (20:04) were right behind in 13th- and 14th-place, respectively. The trio were all-Conference award winners as well.

“They ran a good race,” DSU head coach Thadd O’Donnell said. “One more spot and we would have qualified (for nationals).”

O’Donnell said Rotich and Soto have a chance at nationals if Jamestown College gets an at-large bid.

Black Hills State took the team title with 29 points. Erin Curran led the Yellow Jackets by winning with a time of 18:25.

DSU’s men finished seventh in the team standings with 184 points. Edwin Chelasaw led the Blue Hawks, finishing in 29th with a time of 28:56.

Black Hills State won the team title with 26 points.

Dakota State’s Devon Berkness won the men’s race with a time of 26:20.

National qualifiers will be announced Monday.
