The Cougars battled back from an two-game deficit to end Dickinson Trinity’s season with a 16-25, 13-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-13 victory during the Region 7 volleyball tournament at the Beulah High School gymnasium.
“It was heartbreaker,” Trinity head coach Melini Grosulak said.
The Cougars (31-5) leaned on junior middle hitter Miranda Kadrmas and senior outside hitter Alicia Palaniuk to carry them into their semifinal match against District 14 champion Hazen at 5 p.m. MST today.
Kadrmas had a match-high 22 kills and Palaniuk added 17. Kadrmas added five blocks and two aces.
“Miranda Kadrmas had a couple big hits at the end,” Grosulak said.
Alyson Schieno led the Titans with 17 kills while Nikki Grinsteinner had 13 kills and a match-high seven blocks. Christina Zach had 11 kills and Mackenzie Glasser had 36 assists.
Grosulak said the collapse was nothing new to the Titans.
“That’s kind of been a problem we’ve had all year,” she said. “Either we start off really strong and we kind of let up and this happens.”

Rachael Hansana had seven kills to go along with her match highs of 25 assists and six aces as District 14 champion Hazen reached the semifinals with a 25-10, 25-13, 23-25, 25-17 victory over the Black Devils.
Payton Borud, Sarah Grimm and DeeAnna Ziegler each had eight kills for the Bison.
Samantha Kristy had 16 kills, four aces, two blocks and 17 digs for Hettinger. Alix Pearson added nine kills and three blocks.

LaCee Vollum had 11 kills as District 13 champion Beach swept Richardton-Taylor 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 to move into the semifinals.
Halle Olson led the Raiders with 11 kills and Brianna Steiner added seven.
Brittney Dietz added nine kills while Danie Weinreis set up 26 assists.
Beach will face Beulah at approximately 6:30 p.m. MST today in the semifinals.

Meghan Battest and Taryn Zacher added nine kills each while Kelsie Schmidt and Kaycee Link had eight kills. Link also had a match-high four blocks.
Shelby Burns led Scranton with eight kills and five blocks.
