Mountain lion season closes

North Dakota’s mountain lion season is closed in Zone 1 because the ninth and 10th mountain lions were taken Friday, filling the zones quota, according to a North Dakota Game and Fish Department press release issued Saturday morning.

North Dakota’s mountain lion season is closed in Zone 1 because the ninth and 10th mountain lions were taken Friday, filling the zones quota, according to a North Dakota Game and Fish Department press release issued Saturday morning.

North Dakota’s eighth mountain lion was taken either Wednesday evening or Thursday morning, according to an e-mail Thursday afternoon from Greg Freeman with the NDGFD.

The zone encompasses the Badlands and includes an area south of Highway 1804 from the Montana border to areas surrounding Lake Sakakawea and south to the South Dakota border.

The first mountain lion of the season was killed in the Killdeer Mountains in Dunn County Sept. 27, according to a previous article.

Zone 2, with no quota, includes the rest of the state and is open through March 31.

The mountain lion season is open only to North Dakota residents. A furbearer or combination license is required.
