Fire destroys 2 semitrailers

At 3:15 p.m. Friday the Dickinson Fire Department received a call that a Black Gold Energy Services semitrailer had caught fire in the parking lot of the AmericInn in Dickinson.

At 3:15 p.m. Friday the Dickinson Fire Department received a call that a Black Gold Energy Services semitrailer had caught fire in the parking lot of the AmericInn in Dickinson.

The Dickinson Fire Department responded with four fire trucks and 28 firefighters.

Dickinson Fire Chief Robert Sivak said the fire began when employees of Black Gold Energy were trying to warm up or unthaw the first semitrailer from the bottom with an open flame propane torch underneath the truck. They had closed off the bottom of the semitrailer with cardboard in an attempt to keep the heat inside.

The cardboard caught on fire and then transmitted to the semitrailer. The fire then spread to another Black Gold Energy Services semitrailer that was parked next to the first semitrailer.

“Both trucks are total losses,” Sivak said. “There were no injuries and the tankers attached to the truck were holding water so there were no flammable, combustible or hazardous materials.”

Chris Blount, president of Black Gold Energy Services said he was fully aware of the fire.

“The fire was purely an accident, cold weather happens and we’ll just leave it at that,” Blount said.

Firefighters were able to control the flames by 3:55 p.m.

Sivak estimated the department used more than 500 gallons of water to control the blaze. Firefighters also used foam.
