Area players picked for Shrine Bowl football games

Several area 9-man, Class A and Class AA football players have been selected to play in the 38th annual Shrine Bowl football games.

Seven area athletes were chosen to play for the 9-man West team.

Mott-Regent had three players selected, Jesse Erickson and twin brothers Aaron and Ethan Keller. Richardton-Taylor-Hebron and Beach each had two players selected. Robbie Slaughter and Adam Woroniecki will represent R-T-H and Jade Bishop and Justin Weinreis are going from Beach. Hettinger’s Ben Davidson also received a nod. Beach’s Brady Zachmann is listed as an alternate.

Two Dickinson Trinity standouts were named to the 11-man West team. Tim Brooke and Dustin Hibl were selected, along with Killdeer’s Josh Kuntz and Beulah’s Leighton Guthmiller and Dustin Rueb.

Killdeer’s Brodie Candrian is on the alternate list.

Killdeer head coach Lou Dobitz will be an assistant for the 11-man West squad.

The games are scheduled July 16 in the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. The 11-man game will be played at 4 p.m. and the 9-man game at 7 p.m.

Last year, the East won the 9-man game 34-7 and the West took the 11-man contest 13-10.

Three additional yet-to-be-selected players from northwest Minnesota will be added to each team.
