BISMARCK (AP) — Opponents of a proposed coal plant and electric power station near South Heart are letting the North Dakota Public Service Commission know where they stand.
The commission is reviewing a coal mining application for the project. On Tuesday a group of activists delivered about 3,000 signed postcards to the PSC’s Capitol offices, voicing opposition to the plan.
A group called Neighbors United has formed to fight the project. Spokeswoman Mary Hodell says they gathered postcard signatures at the visitors’ center of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park and at other locations.
The coal mine would be about 13 miles from the park. Hodell says it would be a blight on a beautiful area.
Public Service Commissioner Brian Kalk says the commission will be holding public hearings on the project.
