Beach’s Dietz among 7 Miss Basketball finalists
BISMARCK — Beach forward Brittney Dietz is one of seven players in the running for this year’s North Dakota Miss Basketball award.
BISMARCK — Beach forward Brittney Dietz is one of seven players in the running for this year’s North Dakota Miss Basketball award.
The award is sponsored and presented annually to the state’s top senior by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
It will be presented following the conclusion of the state Class B basketball tournament in Bismarck.
This year’s finalists include Dietz, Shauna Long of Standing Rock, Taylor Kraft of Central Cass, Katie King of Kenmare, Sasha Golus of Belcourt, Caitlin Farroh of Grand Forks Central and Meghan Roehrich of Fargo South.
-- Dietz, a 5-foot-10 guard-forward, averaged 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. She shot 50 percent from the field.
She was a Class B all-state first-team selection as a junior and led her team to a state championship last season while being named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
-- Long, a 5-4 guard, averaged 29 points, 8 assists and 6 steals. She was a Class B all-state first-team selection as a junior.
According to The Miss Hoopster, Long’s points-per-game average ranks second on the state’s single-season charts behind Bowman’s Tanya Fischer, who averaged 31 points per game in 1993.
-- Kraft, a 6-0 forward-center, averaged 14 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. She was a Class B all-state second-team selection as a junior.
-- King, a 6-0 center, averaged 19 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists and shot 58 percent. She was a Class B all-state second-team selection as a junior.
-- Golus, a 5-10 center, averaged 22 points, 14 rebounds, 3 steals and blocks and 51 percent from the field. She was a Class A all-state first-team selection as a junior.
-- Farroh, a 6-1 center, averaged 21 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals. She shot 63 percent. She was a Class A all-state first-team selection as a junior.
-- Roehrich, a 5-11 center, averaged 24 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. She was a Class A all-state first-team selection as a junior.
