Train derails, closes crossing

The cause of a partial Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad derailment in Dickinson Wednesday morning is under investigation, BNSF spokesperson Amy McBeth, said.

The cause of a partial Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad derailment in Dickinson Wednesday morning is under investigation, BNSF spokesperson Amy McBeth, said.

“There were no injuries and no hazardous materials involved in the derailed cars,” she said.

The incident led to the closure of railroad crossings at Fourth and Sixth avenues southeast, according to the Dickinson Police Department.

McBeth expected the crossings to be open and train traffic to resume as normal by today.

“We understand that when something like this happens, it certainly impacts the communities in which we operate and which we serve,” she said. “We try to move as quickly as we can to minimize the interruption to the community.”

The train consisted of two locomotives and 33 cars, 11 of which derailed, McBeth said.

Nine were empty, she said.

The cars were carrying a variety of freight from Minnesota to Montana, McBeth said.
