KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — Glacier National Park officials say grizzly bear tracks have been spotted in the snow in the park and are warning visitors that bears are emerging from their dens.
Glacier Superintendent Chas Cartwright tells the Daily Inter Lake that visitors should be alert for bears and comply with safety regulations.
An official with Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks also says bears are becoming active.
State grizzly bear management specialist Tim Manley says a tracking collar activated on March 15 shows a female grizzly with a cub is active.
Experts say bears stay at den sites for about a week before moving to lower elevations to search for food.
Manley says that rural homeowners should bring in bird feeders, garbage, pet foods and other items that might attract bears.
