ND PSC schedules meetings on South Heart coal mine project

BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota regulators are planning two June public meetings about a proposed coal mine near South Heart in western Stark County.

The project has drawn opposition from some local residents, and Public Service Commissioner Kevin Cramer says opponents will be able to air their concerns.

Critics say the coal mine would affect local land use and water supplies. They also don't like the project's closeness to the south unit of the Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It's about 13 miles away from the park.

The meetings are scheduled on June 28 in the Beck Auditorium at Dickinson State University. Cramer says the first meeting will be held at 10 a.m. local time. The second meeting will be at 7 p.m.
