BISMARCK — The University of Mary promoted Jevin Budde to head men’s basketball coach on Monday.
Budde, who was a Marauders assistant under coach Randall Herbst the past two seasons, is an Iowa native who played at Creighton University. He held assistant coach gigs at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minn., and at Nebraska-Omaha before joining Herbst at U-Mary.
Herbst left U-Mary last week to become an assistant coach at Nebraska-Omaha, which is in the process of moving to NCAA Division I.
Last season, the Marauders had their most success since moving from the NAIA to NCAA Division II.
They finished 15-13 overall and placed fifth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference with a mark of 11-9, their first winning season since joining the NCAA.
“We feel very good about the success and direction of our men’s basketball program and Jevin Budde played an important role in creating that success,” U-Mary athletic director Roger Thomas said. “I believe Jevin is the right coach to add and build on what we’ve already accomplished.
“Our search for an energetic young coach began in-house and we found the right person right here with Jevin. There was no need for us to look elsewhere.”
