TUCSON, Ariz. — Dickinson High School graduate Cole Frenzel was named to the Pac-10’s all-conference baseball team Tuesday.
Frenzel, a sophomore first baseman for the University of Arizona, finished second in the Pac-10 with a .365 batting average and led the league with a .477 on-base percentage.
He has 44 RBI and scored 44 runs, one of only three players in the Pac-10 to reach 40 in both categories.
Frenzel, who started in all 55 of Arizona’s games, has hit three home runs, a triple and is tied for the team lead with 15 doubles.
He had a streak of 39 games earlier this season in which he reached base safely by either a hit, a walk or a hit-by-pitch. He had done so in Arizona’s final 20 games of the 2010 season, which extended the overall streak to 59 games and tied a school record.
He was joined on the 25-player all-conference team by five Arizona teammates: pitchers Kurt Heyer and Kyle Simon, infielder Alex Meija and outfielders Robert Refsnyder and Joey Richard.
The Wildcats (36-19, 15-12 Pac-10) finished fourth in their conference and won 12 of their final 15 games.
They play Seton Hall at 11:35 a.m. Friday in the NCAA Tournament’s College Station (Texas) Regional at Texas A&M’s Olsen Field. The Wildcats are the regional’s No. 2 seed.
