Plan for Dakota Grassland ready for review and meetings set

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued a draft plan for the proposed Dakota Grassland Conservation Area on Monday and will hold meetings in Bismarck and Miller, S.D. regarding it.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issued a draft plan for the proposed Dakota Grassland Conservation Area on Monday and will hold meetings in Bismarck and Miller, S.D. regarding it.

The outline establishes the area and analyzes the potential impacts of a conservation easement program in the Prairie Pothole Region of North and South Dakota, according to a press release.

The outcome will be to determine whether the service should proceed with the proposed Dakota Grassland Conservation Area.

The purpose of it is to work with willing landowners to accelerate the conservation of wetland and grassland habitats to create the Dakota Grassland Conservation Area. Meetings are Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Best Western - Doublewood Inn in Bismarck and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller High School Lunch Room, 623 E. Fourth St. in Miller, S.D.

Public comments on the plan can be submitted until July 25 to dgca_comments@fws.gov.
