MINOT (AP) — Authorities say a woman who had to be rescued when she drove her vehicle into Souris River floodwaters in Minot was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
City spokesman Dean Lenertz says the 35-year-old woman drove past a National Guard checkpoint at about 11:15 p.m. Sunday and into the flooding river, then rolled down her window and called for help. She was not immediately identified.
Sgt. 1st Class David Dodds says the National Guard gave local firefighters and police officers a 5-ton dump truck vehicle to take out into the water to rescue the woman. Dodds says the water was over the wheels of the woman's vehicle.
Lenertz says it's the first time a driver has ignored a Guard checkpoint since the flooding started.
