BISMARCK (AP) — North Dakota health officials took water quality samples near Williston on Tuesday amid fears that an oil spill on the Yellowstone River in Montana will make it to northwest North Dakota, where the river flows into the Missouri River.
State Water Quality Director Dennis Fewless tells said he's been in contact with Montana officials and the federal Environmental Protection Agency. He says officials are taking water samples in the Williston area as a precaution.
Fewless says he doesn't anticipate a problem. Williston gets its water from the Missouri, but Fewless says the intake is not on the surface of the water where any oil would float.
