Letter: Disappointed in parade-goers’ lack of respect
I had the privilege of attending the Roughrider Days parade after many years of not being there for this great event. I was disappointed to say the least.
Where has all the respect for the flag of the United States gone?
The parade started with the military marching displaying the flag as the lead entry. They very proudly presented the colors. However, those in attendance seemed to care less that the flag of the United States was passing by. Everyone just kept talking and sitting when it went by. That is not how it is done folks!
Section 177 of the United States Flag code states that all persons should stand at attention, remove their hats and place their hand over their heart as the flag passes by. This was totally ignored by the attendees.
As I said, I am very disappointed and hurt. I spent 25 years in the Air Force defending this country and to see the disrespect hurts me very much.
