The New York Mets officially announced Thursday that they have signed first baseman Cole Frenzel, a 2009 Dickinson High School graduate.

The Mets drafted the University of Arizona first baseman in the seventh round of June’s MLB first-year player draft.

ESPN.com New York Mets beat writer Adam Rubin first reported the official announcement Thursday.

The Dickinson Press confirmed with Frenzel on Saturday, July 2, that he had signed a minor league deal with the team with a signing bonus worth mid-six figures.

Frenzel hit .346 with three home runs, 48 RBI for Arizona this spring and was an all-Pac 10 selection, leading the conference with a .461 on-base percentage.

The club said Frenzel will be assigned to a minor league team within a week. Frenzel told The Dickinson Press he believes that team will be the Single-A Brooklyn Cyclones.
