Conrad honored for dedication to parks

For his record of preserving America’s heritage through the growth and enhancement of the National Park System, the National Parks Conservation Association Wednesday honored Sen. Kent Conrad with the “Friend of the National Parks” Award.

Northern Rockies Regional Director Tim Stevens, Livingston, Mont., said Conrad has an excellent voting record when it comes to protecting natural areas. This includes his approval of the Senate Omnibus Public Land Management Act.

“The award is presented to 236 members of Congress as a thank you for sticking up and standing up for America’s national parks,” Stevens said.

The award was presented in Washington, D.C.

“Our national parks are a symbol of our great heritage, a place for recreation and an important educational and training resource for our students,” Conrad said in a press release. “We have a duty to care for our nation’s historical treasures and ensure that they will continue to have clean air and healthy wildlife for future generations.

“I want to thank the National Parks Conservation Association for its great work and for this award.”
