DEVILS LAKE (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers says a study has concluded that a proposed water control structure on the Tolna Coulee at Devils Lake will not have a significant impact on the environment.

The agency is taking public comments on the report until Aug. 15.

If the flooding Devils Lake keeps rising it eventually will overflow naturally through the coulee and into the Sheyenne River. Officials fear an uncontrolled flow could cause flooding downstream. The control structure would regulate the flow.

The corps says an overflow could occur as early as next year.
