Central Plains Regional's Friday evening games postponed to Saturday

Following heavy mid-afternoon rains, Central Plains Regional tournament officials postponed the Friday evening session winner’s bracket games of the American Legion baseball tournament.

Because of the postponement, games scheduled for Friday night will be played beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

Tournament officials said Saturday will feature a rolling schedule beginning at 10 a.m. with only a short time period — roughly 15 minutes — between games.

The original schedule called for two loser-out games and one winner’s bracket game to be played Saturday. Instead, two winner’s bracket games will be played, followed by two loser-out games and, if there is time, a game between the winners of the day’s first two games.

Officials’ efforts to make rain-drenched Southside Municipal Ballpark playable in time to begin the second-round game between Mandan and Eden Prairie, Minn., at 8 p.m. Friday fell short of their self-imposed 6:30 p.m. cleanup deadline.

Carroll County, Iowa, and Omaha (Neb.) Pi Midwest were set to follow Mandan and Eden Prairie 45 minutes after that game’s conclusion.

On Thursday night, after thunderstorms led to a two-hour rain and lightning delay, tournament officials said games can be played late into the night. The latest a game can begin is 11 p.m.

Friday’s rain began shortly after the afternoon session concluded with the Dickinson Roughriders’ 4-0 loss to Lino Lakes (Minn.) in a loser-out game.

The area received 2 to 4 inches of rain.
