SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The former head of Duke Medical Center's urology program says a Kentucky doctor followed the proper standard of care when he amputated part of a truck driver's penis after discovering a rare and deadly cancer.
Dr. David Paulson testified Tuesday in Shelby County Circuit Court that the cancer on the tip of Phillip Seaton's penis could be diagnosed on the spot during the 2007 surgery.
Paulson was the first witness called to the stand by the defense in Seaton's lawsuit against Dr. John Patterson of Frankfort for removing a portion of Seaton's penis without consulting him.
Another urologist who testified Tuesday for the plaintiffs said the doctor should have consulted the family beforehand.
