Steffan's 2 TD paces University of Mary's win over Chadron State

BISMARCK — Tyler Steffan caught two touchdown passes and Josh Murray ran in the game-winning touchdown to help the University of Mary defeat Chadron State on Thursday night at the Community Bowl.

Steffan, a Dickinson High School graduate, had 130 yards receiving on six receptions, including a 24-yard TD pass from Craig Bagnell in the first quarter and a 47-yard strike in the fourth.

Murray, a senior transfer from the University of North Dakota, had 81 yards rushing and bought U-Mary back from their only deficit of the night, 24-23, when he scored with 2 minutes, 46 seconds remaining in the fourth.

Murray’s touchdown plunge capped an eight-play, 78-yard drive that included a 28-yard pass to Steffan to set up the game-winning TD.

Brady Martin, a Richardton native, had five receptions for 42 yards, including two catches on the drive and the two-point conversion after Murray’s touchdown.

Chadron State (0-1) outgained U-Mary (1-0) 466-379.

Dominic Morris rushed for 140 yards on 24 carries for the Eagles and Brandon Gorsuch was 20 of 35 for 230 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
