Midgets fall at West team tourney

BISMARCK — Dickinson High boys tennis team came up just short of qualifying the state tournament on Thursday at the West Region team tournament.

The loss didn’t put Dickinson in the dumps though, and head coach Nathan Magstadt was proud of how his team handled the losses.

“It was heartbreaking,” Magstadt said. “To see those guys not sit around and mope says a lot about our character.”

Senior Dan Anderson, who is Dickinson’s No. 1 singles player teamed up with No. 2 singles player Ian McGovern for the Midgets’ lone win against Mandan. The Midgets lost 4-1 to Mandan in the quarterfinals.

Anderson added another win over Jamestown’s Danny Fischer 7-6 (8-6), 6-3. The Blue Jays edged Dickinson in the consolation semifinal match 3-2. Dickinson’s final win was by Jayse Bender and Alex Priebe, who beat Braydon Love and Nick Fuchs in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

Dickinson continues at the West Region Tournament today and Saturday playing for individual spots at the Class A state tournament.
