2 DSU football players earn DAC honors

Dickinson State junior quarterback Dave Velasquez and junior receiver Tanner Leak earned Dakota Athletic Conference weekly honors on Monday.

Velasquez was named the DAC’s offensive player of the week after throwing for career bests of 247 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-14 win against Mayville State on Saturday.

Leak had a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown in the game and earned special teams player of the week.

Valley City State sophomore linebacker Jake Thurston was named defensive player of the week. He had two sacks in the Vikings’ 21-10 win over Jamestown College.
