A rough season for Dickinson State was not made any easier when South Dakota Mines came to Scott Gymnasium on Tuesday night.
The Hardrockers swept the Blue Hawks 25-14, 25-11, 25-11 to improve their win streak to 14 games and their record to 18-3 during a season in which they are playing an independent schedule.
“We have a very young team this year,” South Dakota coach Tiffany Mastin said. “We came in with a main focus of having confidence.”
The Blue Hawks, meanwhile, remained winless on the season, falling to 0-20 with eight matches remaining in the regular season.
“There were improvements in the first game that didn’t really carry over through the next,” DSU head coach Maura Bronte said.
One bright spot for the Blue Hawks was junior Sarah Zeilbig, who had a team-high six kills and added six digs.
“I just go hard, don’t think about the game,” Zeilbig said.
Bronte said Zeilbig has been playing well for the Blue Hawks. She is second on the team in kills.
“Sarah carried the team well,” Bronte said. “She did what we’ve been practicing.”
Senior Jennifer Hartman added three blocks and two kills for the Blue Hawks, who visit Minot State at 5 p.m. Saturday.
“We need to play as a team, have everybody do what they need to do,” Zeilbig said.
