Steffan sets U-Mary records in loss to Minnesota Duluth

BISMARCK — University of Mary wide receiver Tyler Steffan caught a school-record four touchdown passes from Josh Edwards, but the Marauders couldn’t keep pace with the defending national champion and No. 9-ranked Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at the Bismarck Community Bowl.

Steffan, a Dickinson High School graduate, had three of his touchdowns in the fourth quarter as U-Mary (3-4, 2-4 NSIC) mounted a furious comeback, but they fell short 41-28.

Steffan finished with 10 receptions for 140 yards. Edwards was 28 of 40 for 318 yards passing.

The previous record for touchdown receptions in a game was three, reached five times by three different players. Steffan tied the school record for touchdowns scored in a game, established by Bobby Wagner against both Mayville State and Valley City State in 1993.

Austin Sikorski and Chase Vogler each rushed for two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (6-1, 5-1 NSIC). Sikorski rushed for 185 yards, Brian Lucas had 114 yards rushing and Vogler rushed for 94 yards while throwing for 55.
