Mack, Patriots claim state soccer title

MANDAN — Austin Mack, a junior at Dickinson High, got a hint of déjà vu as he helped Bismarck Century defeat Bismarck High 3-0 for the state boys soccer championship on Saturday.
Mack felt like this was a perfect going-away present for Century head coach Joel Jahnke. Century won its first state title in 2007, the first year Jahnke was the head coach. The Patriots finished second the past two seasons.
“I’m really proud on how we played,” said Mack, a starting center back who had big defensive stops in both the semifinal win over Bismarck St. Mary’s and the title game.
Mack brought home individual honors, too. He was named to the all-tournament team along with five of his teammates.
“It’s a great honor, to know that everything paid off,” Mack said.
