DSU's McCallum: I was left out of enrollment probe

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The president of Dickinson State University says he wasn't aware of an investigation into the school's enrollment reporting, so he couldn't help resolve questions about it.

Richard McCallum is speaking today at a hearing about whether he should be fired for allegedly padding Dickinson State's student enrollment totals in the fall of 2010.

People who attended some seminars were counted as students, even though they never signed up for class credit.

McCallum says Dickinson State's registrar checked into the problem last February, and McCallum thought the issue had been resolved. McCallum says he later discovered there was an investigation.

North Dakota University System Chancellor William Goetz that McCallum resign in early August. McCallum said he ignored Goetz's calls because he wanted to talk to a lawyer first.
