Divide County dominates Wildfire in 2nd half en route to 70-30 win

CROSBY — Mott-Regent was on the prowl for another upset, but No. 3-ranked Divide County responded by racking up points in the second quarter.

The Maroons scored 40 points in the second quarter to defeat Mott-Regent 70-30 in the 9-man football quarterfinals on Saturday.

The Wildfire (8-3) led 24-16 after the first quarter, but couldn’t find an answer to the offensive and defensive production put up by Andreas Holm.

Holm rushed for 176 yards on 11 carries and scored three second-quarter touchdowns. Holm returned an interception 56 yards for a touchdown. Morgan Jacobs added 90 yards on nine carries and two touchdowns.

Ladd Simonson scored Divide County’s first touchdown, while Taylor Wigginton added a 3-yard TD run in the first quarter. Taylor Elsbernd ended the scoring for the Maroons in the third quarter with a 4-yard TD run.

Divide County (11-0) led 56-30 at halftime.

Mott-Regent’s offense was on fire in the first quarter, but only scored six points in the final three quarters.

Wildfire quarterback McCahen Schweitzer threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns. Chad Mosbrucker, who caught six passes for 143 yards, grabbed the Wildfire a pair of scores in the first quarter. Mosbrucker had 55- and 41-yard TD receptions.

Taylor Zentner, who had 105 yards receiving on eight catches, had TD receptions of 63 and 9 yards.

Divide County plays North Star in the 9-man semifinals next Saturday.
