BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Wildlife officials say hunters are nearing the early season mountain lion quota in southwest North Dakota, with the killing of the seventh lion late last week near the North Unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

The Zone 1 quota for the early season that ends Nov. 20 is 10. If that number is reached before Nov. 20, the season ends immediately. If the quota is not reached, there is no carryover to the late season, which opens Nov. 21 and runs through next March and has a quota of four.

There is no quota in Zone 2, which is the rest of state. The season also runs through next March.
