Steffan, Rams beat Oregon in a thriller

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Katelynn Steffan had 15 kills, including the match-winner, as Colorado State knocked off Oregon in five sets Thursday night in the opening round of the NCAA volleyball tournament.

HONOLULU, Hawaii — Katelynn Steffan had 15 kills, including the match-winner, as Colorado State knocked off Oregon in five sets Thursday night in the opening round of the NCAA volleyball tournament.

The Dickinson native and Mountain West Conference Most Valuable Player led the Rams to a 24-26, 25-21, 25-21, 15-25, 15-10 victory at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rams (24-5) move on to face the winner of Hawaii and Northern Colorado, which was not complete at the time The Dickinson Press was published. The game is expected to begin at 10 p.m. MST.

Megan Plourde also had 15 kills and a team-high 11 block assists while hitting .481 for Colorado State. Dana Cranston had 10 kills. Steffan had eight digs, four block assists and a pair of aces as she hit .184 from the outside.

Alaina Bergsma had a match-high 30 kills for Oregon, which came back from a 7-3 deficit in the fifth set and made it 11-10 before the Rams reeled off four straight points, culminating in Steffan’s match-winning kill.
